I hope these images of someone bombarded by eggs, rocks, and racial slurs don’t become desensitizing. The person who did this to her and the people who condone or excuse this behavior lack a moral compass and intelligence about racial differences. Acts of racism, no matter what their severity, are wrong.

If you agree with me, I highly recommend exploring You Can Fix Racism!, a site devoted to fixing a broken humanity.

Tonight I was hit with a hand full of eggs and huge rock on my back and called “Nigger” by a white guy in the backseat of a dark blue truck as I was riding my bike on Westheimer and Jeanetta. They drove too fast for me to get the license plate number. I had to get a cop to drive me home. This night makes me wonder how blacks did it back in the day, and why the community is looking the way it is now. I am trying not to cry, but I am in physical pain from the rock and not understanding why I deserved this.

Summer show #3 is definitely a fan thing: Nervous Curtains return to Austin!
antigravityagency:

Kicking Off A Kickass Summer Of Music With Kingdom of Suicide Lovers, Nervous Curtains, and Bipolar Gentlemen @ The Mohawk, Thursday, June 21
Kingdom of Suicide Lovers are Paul Streckfus (Glorium), Kelsie Wickliffe, and Baldomero Valdez (Faceless Werewolves). The Austin based musicians form a noisy but melodic, groove infused post-punk rock band reminiscent of Echo & The Bunnymen, The Jesus and Mary Chain, and Joy Division, but are wholly and cohesively unique.
Nervous Curtains is a shimmering dark wave synth rock band with the recently released Fake Infinity, a starkly brilliant full-length album. The trio, led by vocalist and keyboardist Sean Kirkpatrick (formerly The Paper Chase and Spoon), delves lyrically into the suspicious to sinister, unpredictable nature of humanity, set to a soundtrack that travels between the borders of beauty and insanity that demands to be heard.
Bipolar Gentlemen are Austin’s most mind bending, “avant-garage” rock quartet, not entirely composed of gentlemen with the manically impressive voice of “Mad Madam” Jessie Hernandez. They break genre molds, descending into dark wave, and ascending with a metal sound that defies the supposed sanity of pigeonholing music convention.KOSL, Nervous Curtains, and Bipolar Gentlemen perform at the Mohawk Austin inside, after the Bouncing Souls concert outside. $5 21+ and $7 18+, or free admission with wristband. Doors open at 10:30, live music starts at 11:00.
RSVP @ Facebook.

Mirah’s music seems to lower my high blood pressure… I experienced a similar effect while listening to Nerdkween earlier.
